Day 1

Afternoon   

 

Arrival to St. Petersburg, meeting with guide in the airport, transfer to the city center;

 

“Winter in St. Petersburg” (4hours): Sightseeing tour with visiting Nevsky prospect, the Neva embankment, Kazan Cathedral (inside), St. Isaac’s Square, Palace Square…: transport + guide

Evening:                             

 

Dinner in the restaurant downtown (European/ Russian cuisine)

 

Transfer to Ladozhsky Railway station;

 

Night train to Petrozavodsk;

 

Overnight in the train

Day 2

Morning:   

 

Arrival to Petrozavodsk Railway Station, meeting with guide.

 

“Capital of Karelia”: Petrozavodsk sightseeing tour;

 

Breakfast in the café downtown.

 

Transfer to Kondopoga (54km);

 

Visit of the ancient wooden Church of Assumption. Built in 1774 the church of Assumption represents traditional Russian wooden architecture. Of great interest are the original 18th century icons

 

Transfer to the Kivach Nature Reserve with stop for picnic with shashlik and hot tea

Afternoon:   

 

Arrival in the Kivach Nature Reserve. The second largest plain waterfall in Europe, nature museum, and arboretum, where you will get acquainted with typical local flora and fauna and with rare plants like Karelian birch

 

Back transfer to Petrozavodsk (78km)

 

Arrival to the hotel, check-in, accommodation.

Evening:                             

 

Time at disposal.

 

Overnight in the hotel.

Day 3

Morning:   

 

Breakfast in the hotel.

 

Transfer to Kizhi Island by hovercraft on the Onega Lake;

 

Excursion in the Kizhi Museum of wooden architecture and cultural history. You will get acquainted with the famous Kizhi churches, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, and visit one of the houses of the Kizhi museum village.

After the excursion your guide will take you to the café in the harbor area and tell you about local tea traditions. Here you will taste traditional tea made of herbs with pastry

Afternoon:   

 

Afterwards the hovercraft will transport you to the other side of Kizhi Island, where the restoration centre of the museum is situated. The guide will show you the restoration process of the main church of Kizhi. You will see, where the original logs are kept, how they are being restored and reassembled after the restoration

 

Return to the hotel.

Evening:                             

 

Dinner in the restaurant in the hotel.

 

Overnight in the hotel.

Day 4

Morning:   

 

Breakfast in the hotel.

 

Check-out from the hotel.

 

Excursion to Pryazha – the centre of Karelian culture: Upon arrival you will visit the exhibition, devoted to the history and traditions of the Karelians. Afterwards you will get acquainted with Karelian symbols of love, well-being and happiness. Using these symbols you will create your own pattern and decorate a blank shopping bag with the print, which you have designed. This bag will be a nice unusual souvenir from Karelia.

 

Lunch of Karelian cuisine.

Afternoon:   

 

Excursion to Kinerma Village - an ancient Karelian village: Meeting with Nadezhda, local resident of Kinerma Village. Thanks to Nadezhda the village became a unique monument of traditional wooden architecture. She did not only win several grants for the restoration of ancient houses, but also preserves the village in a traditional Karelian style. Excursion around the village

 

Arrival to the hotel in Petrozavodsk.

Evening:                             

 

Express train to St. Petersburg: 2-nd class.

 

Arrival to St. Petersburg/ Ladozhsky Railway Station, meeting with guide, transfer to the city center;

Day 5

Morning:   

 

Breakfast in the hotel.

 

Excursion to the State Hermitage Museum;

Afternoon:   

 

Excursion to St. Isaac’s Cathedral and Peter and Paul Fortress (territory and Cathedral);

 

Return to the hotel.

Evening:                             

 

Dinner in the restaurant in the hotel.

 

Overnight in the hotel.

Day 6

Morning:   

 

Breakfast in the hotel.

 

Excursion to Peter and Paul Fortress (territory and Cathedral);

Afternoon:   

 

Return to the hotel.

Evening:                             

 

Dinner in a restaurant in the hotel.

 

Overnight in the hotel.

Day 7

Morning:   

 

Breakfast in the hotel.

 

Check-out from the hotel.

 

Excursion to Tsarskoe Selo with visiting Catharine Palace and Park;

Afternoon:   

 

Transfer to the airport;

 

Departure from St. Petersburg.
