Sochi Olympics 2014 Slogan Unveiled at 500-day Countdown. 26.09.2012 01:06

The official slogan of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games was unveiled on 25th of September’12 in the Russian Black Sea resort city of Sochi, the host city of the Olympic Games 2014. According to Dmitry Chernyshenko, head of the Games' steering committee, the slogan was «Hot. Cool. Yours». The word 'hot' mirrors the hot sports emotions and hints the climate in the games subtropical venue. The word 'cool' reflects the season, as well as Russia's image in the world. 'Yours' means “the Olympics is for everyone”-  Chernyshenko explained.

The slogan was revealed during a celebration marking the 500-day countdown of the Sochi Olympics. The games will be opened on the 7th of February, 2014 and run until the 23rd of February.




Hotel Metropol has been sold out at Moscow Auction for almost 300 Million Dollars USA to Russian Hotel Chain. 06.09.2012 20:16

The Hotel Metropol in Moscow was sold at auction a few days ago for $275 million, three million dollars more than the starting price. The hotel was purchased by Azimut, a major Russian hotel chain that previously rented the property from the Moscow city government, who organized the auction as part of its privatization program.

Moscow currently has a shortage of hotel rooms and with an ostentatious business culture, the location of the Metropol hotel is prime for any guest who is seeking to be in the center of the city’s action. The hotel is located within walking distance from Red Square and is situated catty-corner from the Bolshoi Theater. As one of Moscow’s most distinctive buildings, the Metropol hotel has six stories and is one of the city center’s more low-rise structures.

The World Heritage Committee composes representatives from 21 States Parties to the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage elected by the General Assembly of States Parties to the Convention.

The forthcoming 36 th session of the Committee, an independent body of 21 States Parties to the 1972 World Heritage Convention , will be chaired by Eleonora Mitrofanova, Ambassador Permanent Delegate of the Russian Federation to UNESCO. For the first time in its 40-year history, members of the public and the media will be able to follow the debates of the Committee through live streaming on the internet.

Five natural sites are to be considered for inscription: Chad, Lakes of Ounianga; China, Chengjian Fossil Site; Congo, Cameroon and Central African Republic, Sangha Trinational; India, Western Ghats; Russian Federation, Lena Pillars Nature Park.

Three «mixed sites» are to be considered for inscription for their natural and cultural values: Israel, Sites of Human Evolution at Mount Carmel: The Nahal Me'arot / Wadi el-Mughara caves; Palau, Rock islands Southern Lagoon; Spain Plasencia-Monfrague-Trujillo: Mediterranean Landscape.

During the session, the World Heritage Committee will examine progress in the conservation of the 35 properties on the List of World Heritage in Danger. Reports on the state of conservation of 105 properties already inscribed on the World Heritage List will also be reviewed by the Committee during the session.

The World Heritage List, created under the terms of the 1972 Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage numbers 936 properties forming part of the world's cultural and natural heritage which the World Heritage Committee considers to be of outstanding universal value. Sites inscribed include 725 cultural, 183 natural and 28 mixed properties in 153 States Parties . One-hundred-eighty-nine States Parties have ratified the World Heritage Convention to date.
